I’ve been working on a series of celebrity portraits, here is one for Martin Luther King Jr.’s b-day. More portrait to come very soon…
Original MLK drawing:

MLK photoshop fun:

I recently did a feature illustration for Oregon Business Magazine. It was a fun job, it was a little out of my comfort zone only because the final sketch that was chosen did not include figures. I usually use a figure to help tell the story or communicate the concept. The final spread came out good and it was fun to make, but the most fun I had was doing these spots. There is so much less emphasis placed on the spot illustrations that it is kind of freeing and I think the looseness makes them more intriguing. I especially liked the wind turbines which worked immediately in the sketch fase.
You can see how they ended up using the spots on my website . The designers did a great job incorporating everything.
With the new year approaching I decided I needed a fresh start blog-wise. So this is my new blog where I will be posting some of my sketches and other interesting things. Like my holiday screen print:
I screen printed 250 postcards and 150 holiday cards. I really didn’t think is through before I stated printing these. I used one screen and had to print each color individually. 400 prints X 3 colors = 1200 pulls! So crazy. Oh well, at least they came out well. Next time I’ll just invest in additional screens. You live and you learn.
